In Nigeria, acheiving poverty reduction requires a concerted improvement in service delivery, accountability, and pro-poor growth. All three have been particularly weak in the Hadejia-Jama’are-Komadugu-Yobe river basin (HJKYB).

DFID’s approach in Nigeria includes: improving co-ordination, governance reforms, strengthening service delivery, and protecting/promoting livelihoods.

These all relate directly to the situation that JWL is addressing: institutional failure in the management of water resources in one of Nigeria’s major river basins.
