Hadejia Barrage
In the case of the temporary storage reservoir at the Hadejia Barrage, siltation and typha growth have already firmly taken root, significantly reducing the effective storage of the reservoir. To restore its storage, as well as control its inundation of land upstream and erosion of river banks downstream, the barrage needs to be dredged and better maintained through improved water level management.
JWL is supporting the operators of the barrage, the Hadejia Valley Irrigation Project, under the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, to improve management through effective communications between dam operators and with the surrounding communities, while promoting the need for the Federal Government to dredge the reservoir.
